    Hi again. If you said your rpm gauge isn't working, Google the dry capacitor issue. Mine dropped working a while back, turned out to be a little capacitor needed replacing. Good luck.

    Well done getting it back on the road. rear calipers are a regular headache in all 3 mr2, it's a poor design. new calipers don't exist so all of them are refurbished. if you ever take one apart, there is a few contact points inside that wear. often overlooked. the tool for the mk3 rear calipers is the same, the sw20 special service tool is discontinued. The only real solution is either upgrade calipers or very regular maintence. Plus don't use the handbrake for anything other than passing MOTs. For resetting the piston in the caliper. (with handbrake cable not attached) wind it in, then out 180*, both calipers at the same time. then you need to pump the brake pedal at least 10 times, firmly. then repeat with the engine running (vacuum assist helps). at this point, reconnect the handbrake cables to the calieprs. Now use the adjuster under the car for the correct setting. the handbrake should be good at 3-5 clicks, less is better as they use more clicks over time. think only 7 clicks available on these cars so not much room for error.

    • @EnginesandUnfinishedBusiness
      @EnginesandUnfinishedBusiness 8 днів тому

      Thanks for the info, I’ll bear it in mind next time I need to tackle the rear brakes 😄 I’m fairly confident the mechanic will have done it correctly though, as he used to work for Toyota when they sold the mk2s, and knew them well. Seems I just got sold a crappy calliper 😕

    • @EnginesandUnfinishedBusiness
      @EnginesandUnfinishedBusiness 8 днів тому

      That does seem to be the general consensus 😕 at some point I’m gonna retrofit the hand brake mechanism from the original calliper into the new one, hopefully that will help

    the pivot point is NOT the point where you attach the socket. the pivot point is that little circle few cm towards the handle. if you move the weighs around the handle, you are actually "changing the torque setting". every torque wrench has a marking which shows where you should ideally apply the force in regards to the pivot point so that the torque to the socket is correct.
